hen I feel an emotion, be it happy, sad, frustrated, bored, twidderpated, angry...I think I need food.
Not mom...she needs to bake. Now I love to bake and cook too...as long as I get to taste while I'm making it. ;-) Mom, on the other hand, bakes for the sheer delight of making others happy. She only tastes to make sure it's 'just right'. Not only are these cakes delish, but to me they are little masterpieces.
At the beginning of the new year, I told mom of plans to compile a set of photos and recipes of all her delicacies. At the end of this year, we would publish the book. So she called me last Saturday and said that she had something for me to photograph.
I arrived to discover not one, or two...but three cakes! Who does this? She made them for her monthly German kaffeeklatch which helps sponsor their local German Radio Station. You can imagine how people line up for her little donations. All for a good cause you know. ;-)
Mocha Buttercreme Torte (aKa:gimme more)
Rasberry Cheesecake
Marmor Kugelhupf... (pronounced Mom's Bundt Cake)
Anyway, back to the cakes. Are you drooling yet? When I got there, just before I began setting up the shots, she shoved a piece of Apple Crumb Cake (didn't take that photo...was too busy eating) into my gaping mouth. What was this pastry for, I questioned?
"Oh, it's just for us...", she smiled.
This is what mom does. Even in the midst of making multiple cakes to give away...she prepares more things just for us to enjoy. How she is not as big as a house is directly related to her willpower...made of steel apparently. Something this daughter did NOT inherit.
And this is what my sister and I grew up with. Can you imagine such bliss?...it is amazing that we were skinny throughout all our teenage years. I ask you, where is that metabolism now?
Anyway, I thought I would post about her today because she just called to ask what I want 'sweet' for my birthday on Monday. Ofcourse, this is in addition to the Lobster Lunch she is preparing for my sister and me.
Is it Monday yet?
