No matter how much you prepare in advance, there are always surprises on Wedding Day. It's just seems to go with the ebb and tide of an emotional one time event, and so as photographers we 'plan' for surprises. ;)
Which really means we psyche ourselves us to not be surprised when schedules go awry, timing gets cut short and things run late.
However, when you are shooting the wedding for a bride who understands photography and the importance of light...especially one who has been your assistant many, many times...you breathe a sigh of relief. Yes, Amanda has been our wonderful assistant on more weddings than we can count, laughed at more ridiculous banter between Grant and me...and still hired us to shoot her own wedding! When we walked into her Getting Ready Suite at the Hilton that day, it was as if I had been there earlier to clean the room and organize the details! I almost asked Grant to pinch me! Shooting was a breeze and the only thing odd was that she was our subject rather than the one running around with a light pole or carrying bags. In fact, Amanda kept telling everyone she didn't know how to act.
Tim, on the other hand, was his usual calm self and just as typical guys do on their wedding day, they nap, eat and get ready at the last possible minute.
Winter weddings bring on a whole different set of challenges, mainly in the category of losing light early in the day. But since Amanda has been trained well, she knew to allow plenty of time in the schedule for a First Look with Tim, portraits as Newlyweds, and then with the entire Bridal Party BEFORE we arrived to the ceremony in the dark. And that's eactly where I'm going to stop this post for tonight... but I'll pick up again with Part 2 starting with their beautiful ceremony and reception tomorrow! Enjoy!
