As wedding photographers, one thing we love the most is getting to know our couples on a more personal level. Sure we meet each couple when they book, either in our studio, or via Skype if they're out of the area; what I'm referring to more is the type of getting to know one another that breaks down barriers. Because really, who feels truly comfortable with a stranger's camera lens pushed in their face? In fact, most of our couples show up with a bit of anxiety because that's normal. And while the girls are excited about the 'potential' of these photos and all the cute outfits they just coordinated, the guys are just hoping there is a good meal and a drink at the end; and we get that.
So this is the very reason why we plan to have fun at our sessions. Yes, I just said that... we 'plan' to have fun. Together we brainstorm ideas of things they like to do, places they like to go, and then infuse their session with conversation. Conversations between them, with us, all while moving around naturally looking for light. Sometimes we find the light, and as other times we need to create it, but this same formula exists with each and every session we shoot. Such a simple approach of walking, talking and shooting...that fifteen minutes into their session...a lovely thing happens...they begin to relax. And that's the moment trust is built, not only for this photo session but all the way through till their wedding day.
Angie and Shawn, we love that you didn't just show up for pretty pictures, but you 'planned' to have fun...and hopefully after you see a few of our favorites images, you'll forget all the stuff you lugged down that long path (HA!) and linger over the moments that have created such a beautiful, authentic snapshot in your relationship right now. We can't wait to tell your wedding story in June! ;)
