As wedding photographers, we watch visual trends with a keen eye. When Pinterest hit the scene, it took the wedding industry by storm because creative souls all over the world became visually connected to what seemed like an endless source of inspiration. Kelly not only had Pinterest at her fingertips, but when Tony the woodworker, joined in, their DIY wedding took on a whole new level of creativity. They joined forces and built the theme around a color palette of Blue, Purple, and Pink, wooden table markers, painted bottles, lanterns and blooms. However, I especially love when DIY projects are not just about pretty designs, but they have real heart-felt meaning. Kelly planned touches of whimsy to adorn the ceremony and reception in the form of dragonflies. These weren't just for decor though, Kelly wanted to honor the memory of her Mother, and her mom loved dragonflies.
As I spent time with the girls getting ready upstairs, Grant toured the grounds of the plantation documenting all the fun touches and elements that Jess, Kelly's friend and awesome event coordinator, was putting out. Not only were there silk dragonflies, but imagine his surprise when real ones buzzed all over the garden that day! In fact, as Kelly began the long walk from the house to the garden, one literally flew over her head as she walked arm in arm with her dad to meet Tony. Then during the entire ceremony, a single dragonfly landed and remained on the sundial as if watching... and Grant captured 'her' perfectly.
The temperatures soared to a record 105 that day, but in all the heat and humidity...nothing, absolutely nothing could dampen the spirits of the day when Kelly married her best friend Tony.
