It all started the night before; craziness that is. That was the night we learned my mom would be going into emergency hip replacement surgery the next morning. We scurried frantically attempting to get everything together like you do when you have no warning of the impending storm.
We woke up early, it was raining, hard. We started to get everything together to meet Mom at the hospital when our son (Morgen) came hobbling back in the front door yelling in pain. He had just wrecked his bike on the wet pavement on his way to work; it seemed his leg was broken - the pain was horrid.
Mom's surgery was in an hour, Morgen's leg was ugly, our hearts were exploding.
That's how our day started, and from there it got even more crazy. Mom's surgery got pushed back a few hours, Morgen had to go get his leg X-rayed (it wasn't broken - thank the Lord), and on top of all this, Deb's mom was preparing for her own back surgery the next day (in another hospital) so Deb was reeling getting all of those logistics together.
When they wheeled my Mom into recovery, we all breathed a collective sigh of relief. It was right then, at the foot of my Mother's recovery bed that it happened. I pulled out my phone to check my email and here was the top message... "Hi Grant, we're sorry we're a little late but we'll be there in 10 minute, sorry. See you in a few."
Sorry? I can see it playing out in slow motion what happened next. The best adjective? Change-depends-charge-defibrillator-paddles-hurl-lunch-panic-tell-Deb-more-panic-...
When we pulled up (45 minutes later), Natalya and David met us with huge smiles and hugs and we began a special Engagement Session neither Deb or I will soon forget. With grace and fun they simply did what we desire from every one of our couples when capturing their ESession; they were themselves, in love and diggin' their own company.
And we did what we now know (after all of the stress and pressure of our own day) is not just something we do for coin; it's in our DNA. We captured them in love without even thinking about how to pose or what lens or best light or... we had a blast.
Natalya and David; thank you for letting us do what we love. For trusting us but most of all, thanks for being you.
These are just a few of our favorites from our time together. We cannot wait to be part of your huge day.
