As the year is winding down, Grant and I find ourselves reflecting on such a special year of weddings. And while the wedding day is all about the happy couple, what makes a wedding special from our viewpoint? You would think it would be gorgeous light, intricate details, and an efficient wedding planner. While all those things are important and sure do make the day exciting, it is not what creates that special bond we feel with our couples long after their event is over.
We're often asked by family and those not in the wedding industry, why invest so much time? And our answer is that we are not just showing up to document an event. In fact, once wedding day arrives, we've already gotten to know them in several settings over that year...our home, their engagement session, and through countless discussions via email, Skype or phone. All these mini encounters with each couple, forges an imprint on our brain and most importantly in our hearts, so that by the time we arrive for their most important day of all, we're showing up as friends.
Nothing replaces the hug we get from a bride and groom, watching their shoulders relax and sigh in relief that they've made it this far. ...or the laughter that ensues when introductions begin around the room as we meet the Bridal Party for the first time. Nothing replaces the gratitude from a parent that tells us how much they loved their child's engagement portraits. Each moment we witness, each piece of communication becomes a part of their living, breathing wedding story.
Emily and Brian, your wedding day was so much more than a beautifully organized event with lovely details. The level of trust you placed in us to capture who you really are, how you really love, and the laughter between you...was and always is an honor. Please enjoy this small preview of your story, that was extremely hard to narrow down, while we prepare your whole gallery for viewing tomorrow.
