About 45 days out from wedding day, we send out a personalized worksheet that asks brides and grooms detailed questions about their day. It's nothing complicated or laborious, but it helps us look out for them, understand their details, and get their questions answered. Our goal is to be fully prepared, so that while interacting with the couple as their story unfolds, we aren't asking a slew of unnecessary questions. Grant always tells our couples, "No new stress on your wedding day... at least not from your photographers!" There are certain things though, that you simply cannot plan for, and the best made plans may sometimes need rerouting.
Ginger had her heart set on an outdoor wedding. She and Deuene had found the perfect spot on the Elisabeth River in Portsmouth, but the weather acted up and filled the skies with dark, ominous clouds that afternoon. With floor to ceiling windows in her dressing room, there was no hiding from the scene unfolding before her. Not long after, she found herself being asked the dreaded question...should they mover their ceremony into a ballroom. This wasn't her vision, this was not how she wanted to meet the man of her dreams, but it was happening anyway. I busied myself with the details of the dress, the jewelry, their makeup, and all the little interactions, all the while keeping a close watch on our bride. Grant and I communicated several times via radio about the day. He was occupied with Deuene and his groomsmen, and like most guys, they needed to be corralled into getting dressed.
So we found ourselves watching, waiting and recording the day...and as we did, i noticed something amazing. The most important reason you surround yourselves with the ones you love on your wedding day, is that they are your support, they've got your back. There were a few tears that day, prayers, and quite a few hugs, but Ginger held on, remained calm and continued to prepare for an outdoor wedding. She was the picture of grace, and to our amazement as Ginger and the girls began dressing, those dark clouds disappeared, the sun came out and guests began to arrive.
Everyone smiles when they see a bride, but Deuene's smile was even bigger when he saw Ginger for the first time and realized that she got her wish after all. And afterwards? It was time to PARTY!
