We begin all our engagement sessions with the end in mind. Not that the beginning is unimportant, because it's the process of the beginning, the process of getting to know our couples, and how they react and relax around us that gets us to that magical end. But oh, the end can be so sweet. In fact, it's so important that Grant starts all our sessions off with his mini-talk about the 'Last Twelve'.
It goes something like this...
"Have you guys heard about the Last Twelve?"
followed by the typical, "No, we haven't"
he proceeds, "Well, let me tell you...I can just about guarantee you, that regardless how long we shoot today, within the last twelve shots, one of them will be your favorite!"
typically followed by both smiles and puzzled looks, and he goes on to explain that it's all about trust. We absolutely adored our session with Kristen, JC, and Logan. It began like most all of our sessions, with JC asking, "What do I do, where do you want me to look, what should I do with my hands?"
Girls, more often than not, just seem to know what to do in front of a camera, but guys...guys feel awkward. No one's prepared them for that 'pretend-to-look-natural-while-some-stranger-points-a-camera-up-in-your-grill-look', so JC's questions weren't silly, they were real, and we understood. We then proceeded to just have fun. Our goal was to capture them as a family first, and we climbed all over Fort Monroe just letting the three of them 'just be'. Once we finished with the three, Kristen's mom took Logan to explore the beach, and we then focused on Kristen and JC as a couple.
I will just say this, I typically start all our blog posts in order with the beginning, middle and end. But this time, I'm going to show you the magic of the Last Twelve. I haven't included all of them, just a few, but it beautifully demonstrates the beauty of love, when it's relaxed and comfortable. ;)
