When couples book more than a year out from their wedding, Grant and I have the honor of forming more than just an awesome relationship, often we become really good friends. And even though they lived over 2 hours hours away in Fredericksburg, Facebook kept tabs as we often chatted over common bonds like photography and their love for dogs. Many things go on in lives over the course of a year or more... some joyful, some difficult. And we find ourselves celebrating or sorrowful right there with them. So much so, that we are emotionally invested when we witness the individual moments that make up their wedding day.
Like the moment, that Kisses, Michelle's 12 year old Collie walked over to see her 'Momma' all dressed up...as if she truly understood the brevity of the moment about to happen in Michelle's life. The same Collie, who had been thru all of Michelle's adolescence, and would walk her down the aisle, in place of a dear mother who had gone to Heaven when Michelle was young...and the same Collie who was battling Cancer now too.
Like the moment, when Matt watched Michelle, his soon-to-be Father in Law, and Kisses enter the church. The joy on his face, and the tears in everyone elses eyes (including mine).
Like the moment when Michelle's Dad gave his toast and spoke of how Michelle's mom had the foresight of knowing how the wedding should look, the colors, and who her daughter should use as her event planner, Kristin, a dear friend of the family.
Moments that make you so much richer for knowing, that grip your heart and pull you close and connect you to a couple... and a family in ways that you don't ever plan.
Moments that make us grateful that we have the honor of doing what we love.
