Our engagement sessions are planned. Much goes into the thought of outfits, the colors, the texture and the setting. And fun! We tell all our couples that the biggest pre-requisite is for them to have fun. Why? Because most people don't have fun in front of a camera. They're tense, awkward, and stiff. That's the norm... so asking people to show us what they look like in love can be a daunting task.
For most couples, this is only our second meeting. They have no idea how much Grant will make them laugh, or how many rolly eyes or apologies I will make for his antics. And yet it works time and time again, they laugh and relax and we begin to click away those moments that are truly authentic between them.
Now that's how we roll with 95% of our couples. But every now and then, a couple shows up that knows us. And as much as you'd think that would be an advantage it can also be awkward. After all, they know all of Grant's jokes...and how predictable my eye rolling is, and can count on the banter between us. How familiar is too familiar?
And that's eactly what he meant when JC turned to me at the beginning of their session, "Is this going to be weird?" I loved him in that moment. He was honest and real and we laughed.
Then those two proceeded to KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK with AWESOMENESS!
