Last night, Grant and I drove 2.5 hours to hear
David Jay, and the
[b]ecker talk about the big picture of our business as wedding photographers. It was called the
Free to Succeed tour. I remember when I first heard about this crazy bus tour that began on 7.28.08 in Teas, I was sure that it was just all about these great new products. And it is a little at the end, but the meat of the 4 hours was spent sharing their experiences, inspiring us and helping us to value the one thing that makes our business unique...us!
So today, we are full. Full of creativity, understanding, new ideas, and amazing tips on how to deliver our images and products faster to clients...and so much more. Much much more. For example, today we purchased
Show-it Web which allow us to produce an amazing slideshow at the end of a wedding reception that only takes 10-15 minutes to create! How cool is that? This same slideshow (timed to music) can be added to our blog and emailed as a link to the bride and groom that they can share with all their family and friends. I love this digital age we are in with photography...so many creative options!
We even met
Kenny Kim, the official photog of the tour. Every night they speak...he documents the speakers and the guests. I also admired how he got the shots too. He wasn't all up in everyone's face, he lurked around the edges of the room waiting with his lense posed. Waiting for that genuine reaction from an attendee that had their own unique "Aha!" moment. He was so patient and it shows in the images he captures each night. He posts them all on his blog, and I can't wait to see his images from DC...we were a talkative bunch that night. I met some fun people, including a sweet girl, Lisa, that sat beside me. We took a few photos, but mostly were too caught up with taking notes and absorbing it all to pull out the camera too much. Imagine that! I did manage to sneak in a photo of another
photog shooting me. ;-)
ps. we even got to see a sneek peek of the much anticipated [b]school from the professor himself. ;-) and yes...he's all that! ha! [b]school totally Rocks...can't wait to start using it once the beta testing is over.
